Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has every reason to believe star quarterback Dak Prescott will be fully available for training camp in July, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

Prescott is on the mend after the compound fracture and dislocation of his ankle suffered in the 2020 NFL season. He had a second cleanup surgery in December that was unrelated to that initial injury.

The Cowboys are set to begin Phase 2 of their offseason workouts this week, which will include on-field teaching sessions. Phase 3 will feature organized team activities and a mandatory minicamp in June.

McCarthy gave this rosy update on Prescott:

“He'll do most things,” McCarthy said when asked what he anticipates Prescott will do during the on-field work. “There's a plan in place that's coordinated with [athletic trainers Britt Brown and Jim Maurer] and the training room so I know he feels really good. He's really had some excellent workouts here in the last couple weeks. I'd see him doing most of the work.”

While Prescott's injury was devastating, the Cowboys are expecting a full recovery and return to stardom. Dallas gave Dak a four-year, $160 million deal earlier in the offseason.

Prescott put up massive numbers in 2020 before he went down as he led a Cowboys offense that needed to put up a lot of points to make up for a porous defense. In just five games, he threw for 1,856 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions. He threw for a career-high 4,902 yards in 2019, but Dallas went just 8-8.
