Jerry Jones, he swears, wants nothing more than to win another Super Bowl. As the Dallas Cowboys prepare for free agency, though, the team is apparently uninterested in adding either of the league's top two available safeties. According to Calvin Watkins of The Athletic, both Landon Collins and Earl Thomas will command a contract in free agency that's “too steep” for the Cowboys to pay.

Rumors of Dallas' interest in Thomas dates back to the regular season, when it became apparent the six-time Pro-Bowler's days with the Seattle Seahawks were numbered. He grew up in Orange, TX and played collegiately at the University of Texas, lending further fuel to the fire of a potential return home in free agency.

Collins, meanwhile, was informed by the New York Giants on Monday that the team would not place the franchise tag on him for the 2019 season, making him a free agent. The 25 year old had previously expressed an unwillingness to play next season on a one-year deal, instead desiring a multi-year contract that would reflect his standing as one of the best safeties in football.

On Saturday, amid widespread frustration from Cowboys fans largely stemming from the treatment of franchised defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, Jones reiterated that his ultimate goal remains winning another Super Bowl.

“I admire people who have got enough to quit being hungry or quit having something they want to have, and they’ve got it, and they have peace,” he told Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram. “I’ve never been there. My point is, the hunger is for what we’re talking about right now — winning a Super Bowl. Not to get another billion dollars.”

Dallas has limited financial flexibility this offseason and, after finishing sixth in points allowed in 2018, was always likeliest to prioritize offense and the pass-rush in free agency.
