There had been plenty of speculation regarding the future of defensive end Taco Charlton heading into the 2019 NFL season. It appears the Cowboys' brass has finally come to a decision.

Recent reports suggested that Dallas had been looking for potential trade partners for Charlton. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, they have now opted to release him.

The decision to part ways with Charlton hardly comes as any surprise. Dallas needed to make room on the roster for defensive end Robert Quinn after serving his suspension to start the season. It seems the front office decided to use this opportunity to officially cut ties.

The Cowboys made quite the investment when they took Charlton with the 28th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. It is no secret that there are high expectations for former first-rounder, especially those that are expected to rush the passer.

Unfortunately, he was unable to meet them after registering just four sacks in 27 games in Dallas. As a result, there had seemingly been a rift growing between both sides this offseason after a slow start to his career.

Although the saga in Dallas has now come to an end, it appears Charlton has generated some interest from around the league.

Perhaps a change in scenery could be just what the 24-year-old needs to utilize the potential that once made him one of the most highly-touted pass rushers in his draft.
