The Dallas Cowboys live and die by their offensive line. Zack Martin is an integral part of that unit, and the team has been working on his contract extension for over a year. There really hasn’t been any doubt as to the team’s desire to retain him.

According to Stephen Jones, they have every intention of making him a Cowboy for the duration of his career.

In a recent Dallas Morning News article, Jones talked about the team’s desire to retain Martin’s services:

“We do have a planned meeting with Tom,” Jones said. “I'm always optimistic. Usually, when we want to get something done, we can figure it out. It takes two to tango at the end of the day. Certainly, he's a great player, he's a guy we want to have a Cowboy uniform on for the rest of his career if we can do that. We've got some work to do.”

The team is scheduled to meet with Martin’s agent, Tom Condon, at the Combine.

Right now, the Cowboys are due to pay him $9.3 million next season under the fifth-year option of his rookie deal. If they are going to make him the highest paid guard in the NFL, they will have to surpass Kevin Zeitler’s deal.

Last year, the Cleveland Browns signed him to a five-year, $60 million contract.

The Cowboys line suffered last season after losing two members of the 2016 unit. So, it is highly unlikely the team will risk not retaining Martin’s services for years to come.
