Right guard Zack Martin remains a controllable asset for the Dallas Cowboys. This is after the Cowboys picked up their fifth-year option on the offensive lineman. Martin, however, is hoping for more than just a one-year deal with the team.

Speaking with Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News, Martin is looking to finally get a long-term deal done after negotiations to do just that broke down prior to this season.

“I think we had good talks [before the season], but at that time I didn't want it to linger during the season and think about it,” Martin said. “Kind of held it and played this year and hopefully we can talk and get something done in this offseason.”

Martin stands to get paid $9.3 million this season, but he’s bound to be a free agent in 2019 if his side and the Cowboys management fail to come up with a new deal that will keep him in Arlington beyond next year.

Since being drafted 16th overall in 2014 by the Cowboys, Martin has rapidly become one of the best guards in the NFL. In fact, he has been named to the Pro Bowl in each of his first four seasons. He has also made it to the First-team All-Pro twice (2014,2016) so far in his career but could get another nod this season after another sterling campaign for Dallas.
