The Dallas Cowboys are taking a look at free agent wide receiver Landry Jones, who is reportedly working out with the team, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.

Among the players working out for the Cowboys today at The Star are wide receiver Brice Butler, who spent parts of three seasons in Dallas, and quarterback Landry Jones, who was among the final cuts of the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to sources. He was a fourth-round pick in 2013 and has eight touchdown passes and seven interceptions in 19 games (five starts).

Jones was surprisingly cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers just before the 2018 NFL season rolled around. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger did not seem to be in favor of the move, but Pittsburgh opted to stick with Mason Rudolph and Joshua Dobbs.

The Cowboys could be kicking the tires on what they could do to solidify their quarterback depth behind starter Dak Prescott, who’s been running the ball more this year, thus exposing him to a greater risk of injury. In Dallas’ 20-13 win over the New York Giants on Sunday, Prescott rushed for 45 yards on seven carries.

As of the moment, Dallas has the pair of Cooper Rush and Mike White as Prescott’s insurance.

Landry Jones was taken in the fourth round by the Steelers back in the 2013 NFL Draft and has since collected 1,310 passing yards and eight touchdowns against seven interceptions in 19 games played, including five starts.
