The Dallas Cowboys have been without two of their top stars in All-Pro guard Zack Martin and defensive tackle David Irving for portions of the team’s offseason program. And it appears they could both be missing for next week’s mandatory minicamp as well.

According to Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett admits he doesn’t know if either Martin or Irving will be in attendance for the three-day minicamp on June 12-14.

He is also not sure if they will participate even if they show up just to avoid being fined. As Hill notes, players will be subject to a fine of $84,435 if they miss all three days of the minicamp.

After taking part in offseason workouts, Martin sat out OTAs as he angles for a lucrative contract extension that will likely make him one of, if not the highest paid guard in the entire league. Garrett apparently isn’t concerned about Martin missing minicamp as the guard remains in “great shape” even though he’s been absent from OTAs.

Irving, though, does not appear to be in as good a shape. He hasn’t been a regular participant in the offseason program as he deals with some personal matters. A former girlfriend of his accused him of domestic violence last month, although she later recanted.

It’s obviously not ideal for the Cowboys to be without two of their most impactful players for the mandatory minicamp. The Martin situation, in particular, is likely one they’d like to sort out sooner rather than later.

But after a dramatic offseason which has also seen the release of Dez Bryant and the sudden retirement of Jason Witten, it wouldn’t be surprising to see their offseason program conclude with even more drama.
