The Dallas Cowboys made some shocking news when it was announced that the franchise was likely parting ways with star receiver Amari Cooper. Cooper, 27, would free up a fair amount of cap space for Dallas were he to be released or traded. However, the latest news out of Dallas suggests that owner Jerry Jones might not be releasing Cooper after all, via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Per Rapoport, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys are trying to find a team to trade Amari Cooper to rather than opting for a release of the Pro Bowler. Teams are aware that Cooper is available via trade.

The 27-year-old would certainly fetch a decent haul in return for a trade, given that he's still in his prime and has exceeded 1000 receiving yards in two of the last three campaigns. It would make sense for Jones and the Cowboys to do everything they can to get something in return for the star receiver, rather than just letting him go for nothing.

This way, Dallas clears up some cap room by ridding the books of Cooper's contract while also receiving some future draft capital- or an impact player- in return for their efforts.

This recent update from Rapoport seems to indicate that releasing Cooper is more of a last resort for Dallas, who will continue to offer up the wideout in trade talks.
