It has been just over a week since the Dallas Cowboys and owner Jerry Jones made the major decision to part ways with star wide receiver Dez Bryant after eight seasons with the team. This put him on the open market for the first time in his career with an opportunity to choose his next landing spot.

Bryant remains unsigned up, pushing forward the question of whether he could still stay in Dallas despite being cut. According to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, team owner Jerry Jones quickly shot down any possibility that the 29-year-old could return to the Cowboys on a new deal.

Dallas wants a clean cut and a fresh start without the services of the former Pro Bowler. The chances of Bryant coming back were already slim given that he will likely look to command another large deal that isn't far off from the $13 million in base salary that he received this past season. The front office would've had to commit a significant amount of cap space to bring him back, something Dallas is already clearly not willing to do given his release.

The Cowboys will shift their focus to building around their current group of wideouts that now includes Allen Hurns, Deonte Thompson, Terrance Williams, and Cole Beasley. The team may look to add to that through the draft by taking a promising wide receiver that could help fill the void left by Bryant.

Meanwhile, things should begin to pick on Bryant's end after the 2018 NFL Draft, with teams getting a better feel for what they need for their respective rosters. He is still a highly productive player that could recapture his elite form if given the opportunity to play a significant role in the passing game. For now, this officially marks the end of his tenure in Dallas.
