The Dallas Cowboys hired Mike McCarthy as the next head coach of the franchise and he's trying to retain one of the current coordinators on the coaching staff. According to Mike Garafolo, Kellen Moore is leaning towards staying on McCarthy's staff in Dallas.

Moore is a former NFL quarterback who joined Dallas' staff in 2018 as the quarterbacks coach. After the 2018 season, Moore was promoted to offensive coordinator to replace Scott Linehan.

In his first season calling the offense, the Cowboys had the No. 1 overall ranked offense in the NFL. Dallas ended the season with the No. 2 passing offense and the No. 5 rushing offense respectively.

Without a doubt, Moore's modern offensive scheme aided in Dallas' offense being exponentially better than they were in 2018. But when the team chose to move on from Jason Garrett, Moore's role with the team was put into doubt.

However, upon his arrival, McCarthy has expressed interesting in keeping Moore on his staff moving forward. The young offensive coordinator still has yet to decide if he wants to remain with the Cowboys beyond 2019.

Of course, with McCarthy being hired, he is likely going to be the one who has the final say on what plays are being called. When he was with the Green Bay Packers, McCarthy was the one who was relaying plays to Aaron Rodgers.

On the other hand, it appears he is open to having another voice in the offense by attempting to hold onto Moore. It also helps that Moore has proven that he can help develop Dak Prescott into a better quarterback in the NFL.

The Cowboys are giving a ton of control to McCarthy for him to assemble his own coaching staff. Even though he could look elsewhere, McCarthy is engrossed in retaining Moore.
