Former Baltimore Ravens free safety Earl Thomas recently figured in a heated exchange with strong safety Chuck Clark which led to his dismissal from the team. Not long after, the Dallas Cowboys emerged as front-runners to land the seven-time Pro Bowler. The team and Thomas were already being linked dating back to the safety's days as a Seattle Seahawk.

Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy shrugged off the swirling trade rumors involving his team. He bared that the Cowboys camp heard all about Thomas' situation but no significant talks were developing as of the moment.

“We’re very confident in where we are [with] the 80-man roster. . . . I have nothing really to report,” McCarthy said, via Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.

The mutual interest formed between Thomas and the Cowboys a few seasons ago might have already gone down the drain as former head coach Jason Garrett is no longer with the team. The Cowboys have also already spent quite a lot during the offseason as they revamped the majority of their defensive line.

The team also recently figured in trades and free-agent signings to improve its roster. Safety HaHa Clinton-Dix, returning defensive end Aldon Smith, nose tackle Dontari Poe, and defensive end Everson Griffen are among Dallas' newest defensive pieces for the upcoming season. The team's busy offseason is indicative of their high aspirations of making it back to the playoffs after a one-year absence.

The following weeks will see if Earl Thomas will also be included in the future plans of the Dallas Cowboys.
