Randy Gregory's long, arduous road toward NFL stardom has been blocked once again.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Dallas Cowboys defensive end has been suspended indefinitely for once again violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Gregory enjoyed by far the most productive campaign of his NFL career in 2018. Playing in 14 games last season, he had 25 tackles, six sacks, seven tackles for loss, and 15 quarterback hits, emerging as Dallas' most disruptive defensive lineman other than Pro Powl defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence.

He finished second on the Cowboys in sacks, tackles for loss, and quarterback hits, beginning to live up to the potential that made him a second-round pick in 2015.

The University of Nebraska product's career has been temporarily derailed by discipline from the league office before.

After an understated yet promising rookie season, Gregory was suspended in February 2016 for the first four games of his sophomore campaign as a result of violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. He failed a drug test again several months later, with the league increasing his suspension for the 2016 season to 10 games. News surfaced midway through the season that Gregory had also failed a third test, likely leading to a year-long suspension when the league made its final ruling on the matter.

Gregory played in the Cowboys' last two regular season games in 2016, but began his year-long suspension days before his team's January 15th loss to the Green Bay Packers in the divisional round of the playoffs.

Obviously, Gregory's overall health and wellbeing is more important than any consequences for Dallas resulting from his latest suspension.

With Lawrence a free agent and not wanting to play on the franchise tag for a second consecutive year, though, there exists a possibility the Cowboys enter 2019 without their two top pass-rushers from a season ago.
