Sean Payton is staying with the New Orleans Saints after all.
Payton, the long-time Saints head coach, refuted rumors he's moving to the Dallas Cowboys, per a WWL Radio tweet on April 11.
Payton has been the subject of rumors for the Cowboys' head coaching position in 2020. He was their assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach from 2003 to 2005.
Dallas head coach Jason Garrett is entering his final year. Since Garrett hasn't exceeded lofty expectations, the Payton rumor mill has been intense lately.
Bryan Broaddus is a scout and analyst of the Cowboys' official website. Broaddus, who worked with Payton with the Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles, told 105.3 The Fan's Josh Clark and Mike Fisher back in January he won't be surprised if Payton becomes Dallas' head coach.
“I think there's mutual respect between Jerry (Jones), Stephen Jones and Sean Payton and where they're trying to get.
If that opportunity becomes available, I think Jerry will do everything he can to make sure he has the right opportunity for the right guy.
If Sean Payton does become available, I think it will be under consideration by the Jones family.”
Payton has made it clear he wants to remain with the Saints. He should build on New Orleans' impressive 13-3 (.813) record in 2018. The Saints will rely on the likes of Drew Brees, Alvin Kamara, Jared Cook, and Marshon Lattimore for another Super Bowl run this season.
The 55-year-old Payton has amassed a 118-74 (.615) win-loss record in 12 seasons with the Saints. He helped New Orleans win its first and only Super Bowl title in 2010.
