Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had a successful and clean surgery to repair a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle which abruptly ended his 2020 campaign. It will take a 4-to-6-month timetable for the five-year veteran to be able to come back on the gridiron, as per NFL.com reporter Tom Pelissero.

Despite being sidelined for the remainder of the season, Prescott remains optimistic that he can beat the set recovery time frame and return to action sooner than expected. In the meantime, veteran backup Andy Dalton will slot in the starting position in lieu of the QB1's absence.

The former TCU standout previously signed a one-year contract with the team worth $7 million back in May of 2020. He already got his first taste of action as a Cowboy when he came in relief of Prescott during their Week 5 matchup against the New York Giants.

He finished with 111 passing yards on 9-of-11 passes completed as the Cowboys won 37-34 to grab their second win of the season. Dalton is expected to earn $4 million in incentives including another million in the event that he successfully leads the Cowboys back to the playoffs.

His promotion to being the team's starter moving forward will be a golden opportunity for the three-time Pro Bowler to be able to strut his wares as he heads to free agency in March of 2021.

Even with a 2-3 record, America's Team currently finds itself on the summit of a struggling NFC East division. Dalton will make his first start under center in the team's Week 6 Monday Night Football encounter against the Arizona Cardinals on October 19.
