The 2022 MLB All-Star Game starters were announced on Friday for both the AL and NL. Chicago Cubs star Willson Contreras was among them as he's set to start behind the dish on July 19th at Dodger Stadium.

By no surprise, Contreras was asked about his future with the Cubs amid tons of rumors ahead of the 2022 MLB trade deadline. The Venezuelan revealed he'd love to stay in Chi-Town for the foreseeable future, but he knows it's not exactly his choice.

Contreras on ASG honor w/uncertain #Cubs future: “I would love nothing more than to play for the Chicago Cubs the rest of my life & obviously those kind of things are out of my control but I'm really excited & proud. I don't see myself going anywhere else but this is business.”

Willson Contreras will see his current contract with the Cubbies expire this winter and given the direction the franchise is heading right now, there is a firm belief he will be moved come August 2nd.

It's not always easy for teams to acquire a catcher at the deadline because they need to get used to a new staff. However, as much as Contreras likes the Windy City, his value is being wasted right now. He can be an impactful addition behind the dish for a number of contenders who are looking to either get into the playoff picture or remain in it. The Astros, Giants, and Mets are among the teams interested in the 30-year-old.

In 71 games this season, Willson Contreras is hitting .274 with 13 homers and 35 RBI, leading the Cubs offense. He's currently out with a hamstring injury. If the organization can get a haul of prospects in return for their star catcher, you better believe Chicago will pull the trigger, despite his desire to stay put.
