UFC Vegas 90:Brendan Allen vs. Chris Curtis continues on the prelims with a fight in the bantamweight division between Dan Argueta and promotional newcomer Jean Matsumoto. Argueta is coming off back-to-back No Contests after some bad luck meanwhile, Matsumoto has won all 14 of his fights in his career as he comes into his UFC debut undefeated. With that said, check out our UFC odds series for our Argueta-Matsumoto prediction and pick.

Dan Argueta (9-1) is coming off of back-to-back No Contests in his last two fights. In his fight against Ronnie Lawrence, the referee prematurely stopped it, and Miles Johns was suspended for testing positive for an anabolic steroid where both fights ended in a No Contest. Now, Argueta will look to finally get back on track when he welcomes promotional newcomer Jean Matsumoto to the Octagon this weekend.

Jean Matsumoto (14-0) was a highly-touted prospect at just 24 years old coming into his Contender Series appearance. He took another top prospect in Kasey Tanner who he got the better of en route to a decision victory and securing himself a contract in the UFC. Matsumoto will look to make a splash in his UFC debut when he takes on Dan Argueta this weekend at UFC Vegas 90.

Why Dan Argueta Will Win

Dan Argueta has now had two consecutive No Contests in back-to-back fights. In his fight against Ronnie Lawrence, he synched in a mounted guillotine choke and the referee prematurely stopped the fight thinking Lawrence was out when he clearly wasn't. In his next fight against Miles Johns, Johns beat him on the scorecards but after an out-of-competition drug test result came back positive for anabolic steroid the fight was overturned to a No Contest. Argueta will look to finally get back into the win column when he welcomes newcomer Jean Matsumoto to the Octagon.

Argueta is a tough out for anyone, especially for someone who is making their promotional debut. He is super tough, durable, and has cardio for days. Argueta always possesses a smothering grappling game that's hard to match. If there is any weakness to the undefeated Matsumoto's game it would be his defensive grappling which is certainly something Argueta can exploit. If Argueta can land takedowns and maintain top control for the vast majority of this fight he can get himself back on track with a win at UFC Vegas 90.

Why Jean Matsumoto Will Win

Jean Matsumoto is an undefeated prospect fighting out of Sao Paulo, Brazil that has been on the UFC's radar for quite some time now. He was able to secure his contract when he fought against Fight Ready MMA's Kasey Tanner who was an undefeated and highly-touted prospect at that time. Matsumoto gets to make his UFC debut this Saturday against a tough opposition which shows the high hopes the UFC has for this young fighter.

Matsumoto does his best work on the feet where he shows off his impressive Muay Thai striking arsenal. He can mix his strikes attacking all different target areas. Also, his movement is exceptional on the feet and will be key in this matchup so that he can keep his back away from the cage which is where Argueta wants him. Luckily for Matsumoto, he's already used to the small cage at the UFC Apex and went against another grappler in Tanner in that same environment. He should be ready for the takedowns and if he can sprawl brawl he should get his first UFC victory.

Final Dan Argueta-Jean Matsumoto Prediction & Pick

This bantamweight matchup has fireworks written all over it. The UFC wants to see the potential of this young undefeated prospect so they are giving him a matchup against Argueta because he's no slouch. Argueta can just rinse and repeat the takedowns with top control against even some of the best grapplers in the bantamweight division. With that said, that seems to be highly unlikely in this matchup against Matsumoto. Matsumoto is a very well-rounded fighter that can win fights on the feet and on the mat where he has numerous choke submissions which will be the key to his wrestling defense. As long as Matsumoto can refrain from being caught flat on his back he should win with rather ease on the feet or could potentially catch Argueta in transition to get his first win inside the Octagon.
