The Indianapolis Colts are heading into the new league year with the most cap space in the NFL. They have roughly $105 million in cap space this offseason, according to Spotrac.

They have plenty of needs still despite them managing to go 10-6 in 2018, reaching the AFC Divisional round. Sadly, the Colts would see themselves be eliminated from the playoffs by the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Colts' needs include edge rusher, cornerback, wide receiver, defensive end, and others. An edge rusher that could be the best fit is Dante Fowler Jr., who is set to hit free agency.

The Los Angeles Rams decided to take a chance on the former third-overall pick at the trade deadline. Fowler managed to only get two sacks during the regular season, but turned it on in the playoffs with the Rams.

The soon-to-be free agent made a crucial play in the NFC Championship Game that put the Rams in the Super Bowl.

That play, of course, is the hit on Drew Brees in overtime to allow John Johnson III to intercept the ball. In the end, however, the season didn't end as expected for the Rams.

It was still a fantastic season for the Rams' organization and Fowler was right in the middle of it. There's still a chance that Fowler returns to the Rams on a long-term deal.

The Rams recently decided to not use their franchise tag on any of their impending free agents, including Fowler. With plenty of the top-name pass rushers being tagged, Fowler could be one of the biggest names hitting the open market.

The Colts could prove to be one of the teams who tries to land the young edge rusher. At 24 years old, Fowler has yet to show he can be a consistent threat in the NFL, but there is no denying his raw talent.

Depending on the price tag, plenty of teams would love to get their hands on someone like Fowler. Since Robert Mathis retired in 2016, the Colts have been searching for a dominant pass rusher.

Furthermore, the Colts had 38 sacks in 2018 (19th in the NFL). Thus, trying to sign or draft an edge rusher could be the main move this offseason for the Colts.

Denico Autry led the team in sacks in 2018 with just nine on the season. Fowler has shown flashes of being someone who can rack up double-digit sacks.

The Colts seem to be building something special under Frank Reich. With the amount of money the Colts have, the possibilities are endless.

Of course, the Colts need to be wise with their money if they want to remain on the right path. Getting into financial issues could cause them to tumble quickly back down to mediocrity.

There isn't any reason why the Colts shouldn't at least entertain the idea of bringing in Fowler. A Fowler and Colts connection could be a perfect fit this offseason if the price is right.
