Everyone loves a good comeback story in the NBA. And when it comes to comebacks, there isn’t a better player out there right now than Derrick Rose.

After sustaining countless injuries and bouncing around to several teams, the youngest MVP in league history has come back to the biggest stage of them all – playing in the postseason for the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden.

We examine down below how Rose has been doing in the playoffs and how his card value has risen in the process.

Rose’s Breakout In The Postseason

For many, Rose’s playoff mode is a sight to behold. Just take a look at his last meaningful run with the Chicago Bulls during the 2014-15 postseason. In the 12 games he played against the Milwaukee Bucks and the Cleveland Cavaliers, the three-time All-Star averaged 20.3 points, 6.5 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per contest.

Those stats came together in glorious fashion in Game 3 against LeBron James and the Cavs six years ago. With three seconds left on the clock, Rose hit an unbelievable buzzer-beater that clinched the 99-96 win for the Bulls.

Six years later after that awe-inspiring moment, Rose is back in the playoffs with the odds stacked against him and the New York Knicks. In the four games he has played against the Atlanta Hawks, he is averaging 22.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and five assists. Rose is also hitting 50% from the field, 50% from beyond the arc, and 100% of his free throw attempts, making him very efficient with the ball in his hands.

With Julius Randle looking lost against the Hawks, the New York faithful have placed their hopes on Rose to help the Knicks pull through the first round. This was very evident in Game 3 when the point guard exploded for 30 points on 62% shooting from the field and 60% from deep. Although the Knicks lost in the end, Rose proved to everyone that he can still play at a high level after everything he went through in the past couple of years.

The State Of Derrick Rose Cards In The Market

Rose’s rise in the card market reflects his impressive run during the end of the regular season heading into the playoffs. Before April ended, a PSA 10 Topps Chrome rookie card of the All-Star point guard sold for $455. A couple of days later, that price went up to $650 on eBay.

Days before the Knicks and Hawks faced off in Game 1 of their matchup, Rose’s gem-mint Topps Chrome card spiked up to $750. Four games into the series. It jumped further to $800 before May ended. This steady upward trend shows that demand for Derrick Rose rookie cards goes hand in hand with his improving performance for New York during these past few weeks.

With the Knicks on the brink of elimination, the team is counting more on Rose to provide a steady stream of offense, especially with Randle regressing at the wrong time. This gives collectors a small window of opportunity to cash in on their Derrick Rose cards. If Atlanta advances, his stock will plummet down and the chance to make a profit on him will be put on hold again.
