Ladies and gentlemen, the Dodgers may be the most clutch ballclub in all of America. On a night where it seemed that Los Angeles was doomed by facing a 7-2 deficit in the early going, it was the Dodgers that continued to chip away and ultimately come out on top in dramatic fashion. Thanks to Teoscar Hernandez' game-altering three-run home run into the right-field bleachers in the top half of the ninth inning, the Dodgers were able to close the door and improve to 46-29 overall. With that mark, Los Angeles holds a commanding nine-game lead in the NL West division.

In the midst of a three-game losing streak, the Colorado Rockies were defeated devastatingly the last time they set foot on the diamond. After it appeared that the game was all but wrapped up after Hernandez could not check his swing with two strikes, the first-base umpire decided that he in fact held his swing. To the Rockies' dismay, it was Colorado that eventually surrendered a back-breaking three-run home run that cost them the game. As it stands, the Rox are a sluggish 25-48 and don't appear to be getting back into the thick of things anytime soon.

Why The Dodgers Will Cover The Spread/Win

For obvious reasons, this Dodgers squad is the more dynamic and talented bunch in comparison to a Rockies franchise that is smack dab in the middle of a painful rebuilding phase. Thanks to Colorado's porous pitching numbers at high altitudes in their own ballpark, be on the lookout for LA to once again rip the cover off the baseball.

All in all, it begins with the Dodgers remaining patient in their at-bats and continuing to be pests when on the base paths. This isn't surprising, but the Dodgers happen to lead the majors in on-base percentage (.337) and also have the most walks in baseball. Thanks to these two statistics, the Dodgers tend to make life extremely difficult for opposing pitchers when occupying the bases when up to bat. Of course, the absence of outfielder Mookie Betts due to a fractured hand is absolutely devastating for this lineup, but there are plenty of names that can still do a plethora of damage in the thin air of the Mile High City.

Above all else, the chances of the Dodgers covering the spread will fall on the shoulders of starter Bobby Miller. Making his first start since April 10th after spending some time on the injured list with a bum shoulder, Los Angeles is excited to welcome him back with open arms. Although his season-long numbers don't pop out on paper, Miller is still more than capable of keeping Colorado hitters on their toes and off-balanced in this divisional contest.

Why The Rockies Will Cover The Spread/Win

Have the Rockies finally hit rock bottom? Most likely. At the moment, Colorado is starting down the barrel of another lost season as they are a whopping 23 games under .500. There have happened to be brief moments and glimpses where the Rockies have shown some promise with young guys who may end up making a different in years to come, but this is a team that lacks the talent and overall pizazz to be a contender.

For starters, Colorado's best chance to avoid getting swept on their home turf will come in the form of an offense that will want to get the part started in consecutive nights. On Tuesday, the Rockies did just that as they jumped out to a 7-2 lead, but everything fell apart shortly after. Getting a strong start is one thing, but closing the deal and keeping the pedal to the metal is another. All year long, the Rox have struggled mightily in finishing teams off in the later goings of ball games. Simply put, Colorado's bullpen may be one of the worst in baseball and they will need to somehow snap out of it later this evening.

Offensively, keep tabs on some young but promising sluggers that exist in the Colorado lineup. In fact, be on the lookout for rising star Ezequiel Tovar and the solid third-baseman in Ryan McMahon to make some noise with the sticks. If they cannot, then it may end up being the Rockies who fall flat on their faces yet again.

Final Dodgers-Rockies Prediction & Pick

While the value on the Rockies ML is tempting at +170 odds, it would be unwise to take Colorado in this one. Historically, the Dodgers are known to dominate the Rockies and that will once again be the case in the final game of this series.
