Former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores filed a bombshell lawsuit against the NFL and all 32 of its teams on Tuesday alleging racism in its hiring processes, among many other things. One of the notable allegations in the suit involved Dolphins owner Stephen Ross offering Flores $100,000 for every loss in the 2019 season as part of tanking efforts.

Needless to say, an owner offering a coach a bribe to lose games is a major scandal, if it's actually true. Wednesday morning, Flores went on CBS Mornings to talk about the lawsuit and specifically addressed the alleged Ross bribe, via Hal Habib of The Palm Beach Post:

“To attack the integrity of the game, that's what I felt was happening in that instance and I wouldn't stand for it,” Flores said during an appearance on CBS Mornings. “I think it hurt my standing within the organization and that's why I was let go.”

Flores' lawyer, Douglas Wigdor, also claimed on CNN that they have “corroborating evidence” to prove this allegation.

The Dolphins went 5-11 in that 2019 season to wind up with the fifth pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, which was used on Tua Tagovailoa after they failed to trade for the No.1 pick in an attempt to get Joe Burrow. Flores proceeded to coach Miami to 10-6 and 9-8 records in 2020 and 2021, respectively, but he was still fired despite overachieving. That's playing a role in his decision to file this lawsuit.

In addition to this alleged tanking bribe, Ross reportedly wanted Flores to try to recruit Tom Brady by skirting the NFL's tampering rules. While Brady wasn't named in the suit, it has since come out that Brady was the quarterback in question. Brady wound up going to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and winning a Super Bowl in his first season there.

Flores is taking a big stand here with this lawsuit and is surely putting his NFL coaching career in jeopardy. He knows that, though, and is trying to force change in a league that has a problem when it comes to hiring Black coaches.
