The Miami Dolphins are ready to compete for the playoffs in 2022, but there are still some questions about whether or not Tua Tagovailoa is truly capable of leading the team. Well, in order to keep the young QB on his toes, the Dolphins are set to go out and sign some competition in free agency. According to reports from Tom Pelissero, the Dolphins are signing veteran quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

Pelissero indicates that Bridgewater will serve as the backup to Tagovailoa in 2022. After a solid stint with the Denver Broncos last season, Bridgewater accepted a role as a backup in 2022, and he'll compete with Tagovailoa to get a shot at the starting role in Miami.

Bridgewater started 14 games for the Broncos last season, completing 66.9% of his pass attempts for 3,052 yards, 18 touchdown passes and 7 interceptions. The 29-year-old ended the season on Injured Reserve after sustaining an injury during Denver's Week 14 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Broncos acquired Russell Wilson in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, sending Drew Lock the other way in the deal. The acquisition of Wilson also ruled out any chance of the team re-signing Bridgewater as a free agent, thus opening the door for him to seek a new NFL home in free agency.

It didn't take him long to get scooped up, latching on with the Dolphins on Monday afternoon on a one-year deal. He'll be looking to get some opportunity while serving as the backup to Tagovailoa, and will be ready to step in if the 24-year-old struggles in 2022.
