The Miami Dolphins are signing former New England Patriots offensive lineman Ted Karras to a one-year deal worth $4 million, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

Karras spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Patriots, so it's no surprise that Dolphins head coach Brian Flores, who served in the Patriots' organization for quite some time, would want to bring him aboard.

The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Illinois, was originally selected by New England in the sixth round (221st pick overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Due to injuries along the Pats' offensive line, Karras actually started Week 1 of his rookie campaign at right guard, but he was moved back to a reserve role in Week 2.

Between 2016 and 2018, Karras made five starts, playing both the guard and center positions. Then, this past season, the Chicago native made 15 starts at center after David Andrews was placed on the injured reserve list.

Karras is just the latest signing in what has been a very busy free-agent period for Miami, as the Dolphins have utilized their massive cap room to add ample talent on both sides of the ball.

Miami was expected by many to be one of the worst teams in NFL history entering the 2019 campaign, and early on, the Dolphins played the part well, losing their first seven games. However, Miami began to play better as the season moved along, and it actually won five of its last nine games to finish with a record of 5-11.

The Dolphins own the fifth overall pick in the NFL Draft next month.
