The legend of journeyman quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, and more specifically “Fitzmagic,” continues to grow on what seems like a weekly basis. Currently leading the Miami Dolphins after beginning the year as the team's backup quarterback behind former Arizona Cardinals signal-caller Josh Rosen, Fitzpatrick is now in a position to make history en route to potentially joining some very elite company in one pretty unexpected offensive category.

Thanks to his ability to scramble and gain some yards with his legs even at this stage in his NFL career, Fitzpatrick officially took over as the Dolphins leading rusher in 2019-20 in Week 15 against the New York Giants. As a result of his most recent rushing performance against the Giants, Fitzpatrick surpassed Dolphins running back Mark Walton as the team's leading rusher this season.

According to Chase Stuart of Football Perspective, the NFL has had only seven instances when a quarterback led his team in rushing yards throughout an entire season since all the way back in 1970. With just two weeks remaining in the 2019-20 regular season and the lowly Dolphins going nowhere fast, there is a very good chance that Fitzpatrick ultimately manages to become the team's leading rusher this time around. Not only that, but the aging signal-caller continues to do whatever it takes to win — or at least remain competitive — with running become a vital part of his game and the Miami offense.

Fitzpatrick and the Dolphins will close out the regular season with matchups against the Cincinnati Bengals and rival New England Patriots, respectively.
