Ryan Fitzpatrick is no longer the starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins. Now with the Washington Football Team, Fitzpatrick was finally able to break his silence about his mid-season benching for Dolphins prospect Tua Tagovailoa.

Fitzpatrick spoke candidly with The Athletic's Robert Mays about Dolphin head coach Brian Flores' decision that shook him to his core.

“I have a ton of respect for (Flores), and we have a very good relationship,” Fitzpatrick said. “But I thought it was a joke at first. We’re putting Tua in? I was floored.”

The Dolphins were coming off two consecutive victories at that point, both blowout affairs over the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Jets. Fitzpatrick was instrumental to their success with back to back games with three touchdowns. He was rounding into form just as the rest of his team was until the sudden switch for Tagovailoa.

“That was my team,” Fitzpatrick said of the Dolphins last season. “… I fought through the shit with those guys. I get the way that the NFL works. I get it. But to have it happen the way it did …”

Ryan Fitzpatrick now has a chance to erase that sour memory make an impact in Washington. Hopefully Ron Rivera doesn't hit him with any curve balls this season.
