The Miami Dolphins have made some loud noises this offseason with a number of significant transactions. They could have it even louder, though. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Tom Brady and Sean Payton were, at one point, close to coming to Miami on a “package deal,” but didn't materialize, mainly because of the timing of the Brian Flores controversy.

Then came the Brian Flores lawsuit. Filed (coincidentally or not) the same day Brady retired, the litigation resulted in the plug being pulled on the Payton/Brady plan.

After Brady became a minority owner, the Dolphins would have indeed acquired the contractual rights to employ Payton from the Saints. Then, the Dolphins would have at some point gotten the rights from the Buccaneers to bring Brady to the roster.

Despite missing the chance to add Brady to the roster, that doesn't mean the future Hall of Famer quarterback wouldn't be able to in the future. There is still a chance he becomes part of Miami whether as a quarterback or in another capacity. though Patriots fans might not be too receptive to such a move, given that Brady would then be on the side of an AFC East rival.

For now, the Dolphins will have another year to find out whether Tua Tagovailia is the guy who will be their long-term option under center.
