It remains to be seen when Tua Tagovailoa will make his debut for the Miami Dolphins during the 2020 season. At the least, he's showing signs of progress during training camp. During Monday's practice, Tagovailoa threw a 70-yard touchdown and is having other ‘flashes of brilliance' during training camp.

Despite the Dolphins taking Tagovailoa with the No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, he isn't going to be handed the starting job. Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is expected to start in Week 1, has been impressed with Tagovailoa's decision-making thus far.

“He’s doing a great job and I know it’s your guys’ job to look at every day and evaluate every throw, but for us as quarterbacks and for me, I just like to see progress,” Fitzpatrick said Monday, via Local10.com. “Sometimes it’s not necessarily a completion, it’s the thought process and making sure the ball is going to the right spot at the right time.

Fitzpatrick would proceed to say that it's vital for Tagovailoa to make the right play in the right moments.

“Sometimes, you’re going to see a long touchdown or something and it wasn’t necessarily the right play. So you guys are going to laud it, but maybe it wasn’t what we were trying to get done. There’s a lot involved with the evaluation process.

The Dolphins may take a cautious approach with Tagovailoa in his rookie season due to the hip injury he suffered that cut his final season at Alabama short. With that being said, while he continues to get acclimated to Miami's offense, it appears he is on the right track. If he continues to turn heads in training camp, we could see the left-handed passer starting sooner rather than later.
