After T1 dismantled Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) at Worlds 2021, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok joined the LCK broadcast for his post-match comments. He answered a number of questions about the quarterfinal victory against HLE. The League of Legends (LoL) icon also revealed his thoughts on a potential clash against another Korean squad, Damwon Gaming (DWG), in the semifinals.

T1 and HLE went head to head for the first knockout stage series at the World Championship on Friday. Although Faker himself was not the star of the show that day, his team put up an exceptionally dominant performance. T1 made quick work of their opponents, dispatching Hanwha in 3-0 fashion. None of the games were close at all, with HLE never really becoming much of a threat throughout the series.

As the first team to clinch a semifinals spot, T1 now await the results of the DWG-MAD Lions matchup. According to the translated interview on Inven Global, Faker shared that he thinks that next round “will probably be a rematch of the LCK Summer finals,” expecting defending champions Damwon to be the ones to advance. (We are predicting the same outcome.)

The legendary mid laner also added that he “would have preferred to be in a different bracket” but also acknowledged that T1 would eventually have had to beat Damwon anyway. Earlier this year, T1 surrendered the LCK crown to Damwon, losing 1-3 in the Summer finals. Faker and co will be hoping for a different result should they face off in the next round.

“Truth be told, I always wanted to face DWG at Worlds,” Faker revealed. “It would’ve been more fun to meet them in the finals, but meeting them in the semis will be just as fun. I’m excited.”

Besides looking ahead to the semifinals, he also talked about encountering HLE Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon's LeBlanc pick. The mid lane matchup was one of the positions fans were highly anticipating for this series. While Faker fared well, his counterpart in Hanwha couldn't do much to turn the tide in his favor. On that note, the LoL superstar just said that he “tried to defend from such tactics” since he knew that Chovy tends to “position very aggressively.”

“Our mindset is always to focus and perfect our own game, so we focused on reducing the number of mistakes that we make,” Faker explained regarding T1's clinical performance.

Faker, who has won Worlds three times with T1, and his teammates now look forward to the results of Damwon versus MAD. They'll hope to showcase just as strong a side as they did against HLE, in a bid to make it back to the finals and claim the crown.
