When most people selected Todd Gurley with their first-round pick in fantasy football drafts, they were holding out hope that they'd get the same version of the Los Angeles Rams running back that we saw in previous seasons. Instead, the versatile running back has seen his role become somewhat limited in Sean McVay's offense.

In the first five games of the season, Gurley has averaged just 12.8 rushing attempts for an average of just 54 rushing yards per game. For comparison, the All-Pro running back averaged 18.2 carries per game and 89.4 rushing yards per game in 2018.

Along with his limited rushing attempts, Gurley has seldomnly been used as a receiver this season. After catching 59 passes for 580 yards last year, he only has 14 receptions for 68 yards this season.

Taking all of that into consideration, what is Gurley's fantasy football outlook for Week 6? In the last couple of weeks, he has been a viable option but this may be a week you can feel comfortable benching him.

Despite combining for 31.1 fantasy points in the first three games, the Pro-Bowl running back has been serviceable in the past two weeks. Due to scoring four touchdowns, Gurley has scored 44.7 fantasy points in Weeks 4 and 5 combined.

Even with the early season disappointment, Gurley has posted just seven fewer points than Ezekiel Elliott this season. However, the versatile running back comes into Week 6 with a less-than-favorable matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

Through the first five games, the 49ers run defense has been able to stifle opposing rushing attacks this season. San Francisco's defense has allowed just 81.8 rushing yards per game in 2019 (fifth-best in the NFL).

On top of that, San Francisco's defense has been able to prevent the teams that they've faced to score a rushing touchdown. The 49ers are the only team in the NFL that hasn't surrendered a rushing touchdown this season.

Therefore, what has kept Gurley afloat in the past two weeks (rushing touchdowns) could be unobtainable. Along with the 49ers defense, the 25-year-old rusher is dealing with a quad injury that held him out of practice on Wednesday.

McVay said that he was surprised to see Gurley on the injury report and is uncertain if he will be able to go on Sunday. With that in mind, it is worth paying close attention to Gurley's status as kick off nears.

Even if he suits up, Gurley could very well have a stat line that has him rush for 45 yards on 11 rushing attempts and zero touchdowns in Week 6. If you're shorthanded then you may be inclined to start him this week in your lineups. But if you have a viable replacement, this may be the week to sit Gurley on your bench.
