The Carolina Panthers were in desperate need of a spark after an 0-2 start. Cam Newton was inaccurate as usual through the first two games. The offensive line was not playing well and aside from Christian McCaffrey, no one on the team was.

Before the Panthers took on the Arizona Cardinals, they announced that Newton will miss time with an injury. In steps Kyle Allen. He was an undrafted free agent who appeared in just two games last year.

Allen led the Panthers to a 38-20 blowout win. He finished 19-26 for 261 yards and four touchdowns including a 52-yard score to D.J. Moore. Allen did not turn the ball over and showed some serious arm talent.

In a league where overreactions happen every week, all fantasy owners immediately went to their waiver wires to see if Allen was available. Chances are, he was available in most.

Is he worth a waiver claim heading into Week 4?

Let's pump the brakes on Allen. If you are a Panthers' fan, it was nice to see a young quarterback step in and succeed, especially after years of Newton. The Cardinals' win definitely has fans looking forward to the next game.

With that being said, Allen was undrafted for a reason. He is not a starter for a reason. He could turn into a hidden gem but we will not know that until he plays more.

As for fantasy football, Allen is not a starter. Most leagues have 10-14 teams in them. There are clearly 10-14 better options at quarterback than Allen. If you truly believe that Allen is the real deal, then pick him up and stash him on your bench. It is way too early to just insert him into your starting lineup.

This is not taking anything away from Allen's first start. He threw four touchdowns without an interception. He almost put up 40 points and went on the road and won a game in the NFL. None of those things are easy to do. Eyes will be on him this week to see if he can repeat his performance.

For Allen to become a fantasy option, he will have to show he can put together multiple good games in a row.
