Following their controversial battle in the Italian Grand Prix, Formula 1 star Max Verstappen would've dealt his crash with Lewis Hamilton differently two years ago.

Being known as of the most intense rivalries the sport has seen, the pair have been involved in numerous accidents this year— sparking debate on who is at fault.

With an accident such as the Italian GP crash, anger management can be a concern among Formula 1 drivers. In 2018, Verstappen had an incident wherein he shoved Esteban Ocon after a collision on the track.

Former Formula 1 driver Timo Glock shared analysis on how both Verstappen and Hamilton managed the situation.

“Lewis never shows on the outside that he has pressure. He knows very well how to come across as calm,” Glock said to Sport1.

“Of course, he also knows that when he puts on his helmet, it all depends. But he has found a way to appear relaxed and cool.

On the other hand, Glock reveals what a younger and less mature Verstappen would do two years ago.

“Max Verstappen has also managed that well so far. For me, he has made a huge leap, he has become much more relaxed, much more controlled in many ways, the former Formula 1 driver shared.

“Two years ago, in a situation like the crash in Monza, he probably would have opened Lewis’ helmet and punched him. Now he leaves him on the left and thinks to himself: ‘See how you get out of this.’”

Today, with six races to go, Verstappen and Hamilton's rivalry is heating up as the dutchman currently has a slim six-point lead in the standings. Despite the controversial incidents between the two, Formula 1 fans are lucky to witness an intense and entertaining rivalry this year.
