Twitch just banned Fortnite live streamer and professional player Cody “Clix” Conrod from the platform today.

TWITCH BANS FORTNITE PRO CLIX

Clix shared news of his banning via a tweet. As per Twitch tradition, the platform didn't provide any explanation for the banning. To regain access to his account (which had over 3.5 million followers), Clix will have to appeal the ban.

Since Twitch has not given any explanation regarding the ban, Clix's followers have presented various theories on why. Some claim that explicit content appeared briefly on his last stream. Others claim that it's Clix's usage of copyrighted material that led to the ban, after multiple DMCA claims violations.

Clix's third banning makes it hard for the 16-year-old streamer to continue his work as a live streamer. While his Fortnite account itself continues to be active, without Twitch, there's nowhere for him to stream. Being exclusively signed with Twitch, Clix doesn't actively stream on his other channels, such as on Youtube. It won't be hard for him if he wants to transition, though, as his Youtube channel still has over 1.5 million subscribers.

Meanwhile, the Fortnite streamer's banning didn't sit well with his fans and his organization, NRG Esports. The team's official Twitter account started the hashtag #FreeClix with a tweet of its own. As a show of support, NRG's CEO Andy Miller says they're also now looking into the situation.

Twitch has banned popular streamers out of nowhere multiple times before. Just last year, Dr Disrespect revealed that he got an unexplained perma-ban from Twitch. But streamers shouldn't feel that losing their Twitch accounts will end their careers. A roadblock, sure, but not the end. Ever since Dr Disrespect has risen from the ashes and rebuilt his live streaming empire on his Youtube account. That Youtube account now has 3.25 million subscribers.
