It appears Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane are finally headed towards a title unification bout. Things looked uncertain as Ngannou was having issues with the UFC.

French MMA outlet La Sueur reports that the fight is currently in the works for UFC 270 on January 22. The event also has Israel Adesanya vs Robert Whittaker 2 in the works.

Francis Ngannou has had his issues with the UFC lately as there appear to be disagreements financially and public bashing from both sides. It appears the two have found understanding with a fight currently being in the works.

Francis Ngannou last fought on March 2021, knocking out Stipe Miocic in the second round of their contest. The win earned him the UFC heavyweight championship and he has not been able to defend it since.

Ciryl Gane last fought at UFC 265 in August where he defeated Derrick Lewis via TKO in the third round. The showing was a dominant one and it earned Gane the interim UFC heavyweight championship.

The bout has quite a bit of history as Francis Ngannou used to have the same head coach, Fernand Lopez, as Ciryl Gane and now it appears the coach and former student don't get along. Gane has always said that that's between Ngannou and his coach, as it has nothing to do with him.

The pair have trained together a bit previously but Ciryl Gane arrived at the gym just before Francis Ngannou left to go train full-time in Las Vegas. The two are quite familiar with each other and it will be interesting how this plays into the fight.

It's unclear if this fight will be the main event. Right now UFC 270 does not have a location but it does have a date as it will take place on January 22, 2022.
