Why Georgia Will Win

Georgia scored in eight of their ten matches in qualifying, scoring 1.4 goals per game in the process, and also scored in their opening match.  In qualifying, it was 22-year-old Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who led the way in qualifying. In nine matches, he scored four times, while also having an assist. Kvaratskhelia was not a major factor in the first match with just one shot, off target, and forcing a corner. He also draws three fouls. Kvaratskhelia was aided in qualfiying by George Mikautadze and Budu Zivivadze. Both of them scored three times in qualifiers. Mikautadze has the lone goal in their first match. He took four shots, one on target and one blocked while drawing a corner. Zivivadze came on as a sub and got one shot, but it was clocked.

The biggest area of concern for Georgia is on the defensive end. They allowed an average of 1.8 goals per game in qualifiers while averaging one goal in each first half. They will look for Giorgi Mamardashvili to step up. The 23-year-old goaltender played in all ten matches in qualification. He allowed an average of 1.74 goals per 90 minutes and stopped 67.3 percent of the shots he faced. Mamardashvili did have five saves on eight shots on target against Turkey. The defense was an issue once again. The top-rated defense was Guram Kashia. He had three takeaways in the game and was one of two defenders to have a takeaway. Most of the defense came from the midfield, meaning when Turkey broke through the midfield, they were given quality opportunities.

Why Czechia Will Win

Czechia played well in qualifying as well. They scored 1.5 goals per game, putting up 12 goals in qualifying. They also showed quality defense, allowing just six goals total, or .75 goals per match. Tomas Soucek led the offensive attack for Czechia. He scored three times and had one assist in eight games in qualifying. He also was second on the team in total shots with 18 and put five of them on target He struggled in the game with Portugal. Soucek has just one shot in the game and did not create any opportunities. Vaclav Cerney was also solid in qualifying. He played in just five games but would score three times in the five games. He did not appear in the first match, but he could in this one.  The top guy for Chezchia in the first match was Lukas Provod, who scored the lone goal.

The defense will be a key factor for Czechia getting the win. Jindrich Stankey was great in the game with Portugal. He had seven saves, in the match, and did not give up any second-chance opportunities. Ladislav Krejci was also solid in defense, with three interceptions and one takeaway. He was one of the primary defenders that kept Portugal at bay for most of the game. Another key factor will be Tomas Holes. Holes played in eight marches on defense, having a plus-eight rating in the eight matches, the best on the team. He had four interceptions and nine tackles won with just two fouls in his eight games. He has three takeaways and an interception in the first match.

Final Georgia-Czechia Prediction & Pick

While Georgia had some positive players in the first game, they played a much lower-level opponent compared to Czechia. Czechia showed strong defense, and they were one bad play on their own goal away or one unlucky break at the end of stoppage time away from the draw with Portugal. They have more scoring options, but more importantly, they have better defense. The last line of defense for Czechia will slow down Georgia, while if Georgia allows Czechia to get to the back line, it will be a goal for the opposition. Take Czechia in this one.
