The already porous offensive line of the New York Giants just got thinner. According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Giants center Jon Halapio is now out for the season because of a broken ankle he sustained during Sunday’s 20-13 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Giants starting center Jon Halapio broke his ankle and is out for the season, per sources. Bad luck. He had worked so hard to not only stick on a roster but become a starter. Was playing well. His loss another blow towards creating continuity on the Giants offensive line.

Halapio injured his ankle in the third quarter of the Dallas game and was carted off with his right leg put on an air cast. It’s a sight that didn’t look good for his immediate availability and now the Giants’ worst fears have been confirmed.

Moreover, Halapio’s injury puts another huge question mark on quarterback Eli Manning’s rickety pass protection. Manning was punished by Dallas’ pass rushers, as he was taken down six times for a loss of 59 yards. That’s two sacks short of his career high. The Giants have now allowed eight sacks this season, tied for fourth most in the league so far.

The winless Giants have a week to find a replacement for Jon Halapio before they face the Houston Texans, whose pass rushers must be licking their chops at the prospect of getting to Manning.

Backups John Greco, Spencer Pulley, and Evan Brown are all in contention to inherit Halapio’s role.

Jon Halapio was formerly Giants practice squad member before making his way into a staring role for New York.
