The New York Giants are not the team of old and have not seen relevant success in recent seasons. However, things are looking up as the team may have scored big in the 2020 NFL Draft. Big Blue brought in a franchise cornerstone as they selected Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas with the fourth overall pick in the recently-concluded draft.

Giants offensive line coach Marc Colombo only has great words to say for the rookie:

“Andrew is a tremendous football player,’’ Colombo said Friday. “One of the first things we talked about was the use of hands, hand strike,’’ Colombo said. “Andrew’s aware of where he needs to get better. That was one thing he needs to get better with. That’s something we’ve been working on quite a bit.

“And just the type of pass rusher you’re going to see week in and week out, it’s going to be a premier pass rusher, being able to study that rusher, know how to study him. Know what his moves are, know everything he’s thinking. Love where Andrew’s heading. He’s smart, he knows where some of his deficiencies are right now. And there’s not a lot of deficiencies.’’

Thomas was a highly-touted prospect out of college as he garnered a first-team All-SEC selection, unanimous All-American honors, and bagged the Jacobs blocking trophy in 2019.

Starting offensive tackle Nate Solder was among the players who opted out of playing in the upcoming season due to the coronavirus pandemic. His absence immediately slots the rookie in the left tackle position for the Giants' offensive line.

Thomas will look to provide instant impact and hold the fort for a Giants side that is looking to acquire all the help that it can get. The New York-based team is still continuing with its rebuilding efforts as it enters the post-Eli Manning era.
