The 2017 NFL season has been a complete disaster for head coach Ben McAdoo and his New York Giants. After reaching the playoffs for the first time in five years in 2016, expectations were sky-high for a roster highlighted by a stellar defense and a crop of talented offensive playmakers. Many pundits not only picked the Giants to win the NFC East, but to reach and possibly win the Super Bowl.

Instead, the Giants' record currently sits a 1-7 after what amounts to the football equivalent of a perfect storm. Injuries to top receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall have stunted their aerial attack, and their defense has fallen from 2nd in 2016 to 28th in 2017 in defensive DVOA, according to Football Outsiders.

That steep drop in performance has many critics questioning whether McAdoo has lost the locker room. The second-year head coach shrugged off the notion following Sunday's abysmal 51-17 loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams, but a pair of Giants players have suggested otherwise.

Earlier today, Josina Anderson of ESPN reported that two anonymous players told her that “guys are giving up on the season” and “just don’t care anymore.”

Here's one of the statements that Anderson acquired, transcribed by Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk.com:

“McAdoo has lost this team. He’s got us going 80 percent on Saturdays before we get on a plane to play a game, it’s wild. Changed our off day. He’s dishing out fines like crazy. Suspended two of our stars when we need them most. Throws us under the bus all the time. He’s ran us into the ground and people wonder why we’ve been getting got.”

On Sunday, Landon Collins said that the players, not the coaches, are to blame for New York's 1-7 record. Still, if the Giants have another disappointing performance against the winless San Francisco 49ers this week, McAdoo might not be their coach much longer.
