Coming out of Ohio State many believed that Eli Apple was bound to be the next great cornerback. It didn't take him long to get on the wrong side of his New York Giants teammates, and at one point he was called a “cancer” by Landon Collins.

When Pat Shurmur was hired as the head coach, Apple was given a clean slate, and now Collins has been impressed with what he as seen as of late and how he has grown up.

Cornerback William Gray doesn't just think that he can bounce back this year, he believes that Apple can have a major role in the Giants defense this year.

“Very athletic guy. I watched him from afar being in Pittsburgh, and then also when he was at Ohio State,” Gay said, via the New York Post. “You just see the things that he can do on the field. I’m ready to help him any type of way that I can, because I want to be in his speech when he becomes a Hall of Famer, and say, ‘I had an old guy William Gay that helped me a little bit.’ I’m gonna give him everything I can, but from the looks of it, he’s ready to go. And I just love his enthusiasm every day on the practice field.”

It's a positive sign for Apple and the Giants that someone like Gay is willing to take him under his wing, and hopefully, that can have some positive results on and off the field.
