Ereck Flowers, a name that'll forever live in New York Football Giants infamy. Since his first-round selection by Jerry Reese back in 2015, his poor production has provided that unfortunate narrative.

Now, despite the signing of free agent Nate Solder, he remains on the team but will have to compete for a starting position, according to John Healy of the New York Daily News.

In fact, as soon as the Solder transaction became official, the Jints brass informed the Miami U product he's still very much a part of the O-line.

“As soon as we announced the signing of Nate, [head coach] Pat [Shurmur] spoke with Ereck,” Gettleman said. “He called him on the phone to talk to him and said, ‘Listen, we’re going to move you to right, and at the end of the day, the five best offensive linemen play.’ That’s where they left it, and Ereck was fine on the phone.”

Of course, Solder owns the starting left tackle position in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Flowers will be competing as the anchor on the right side, the power side which actually could suit the big man far more favorably.

In three seasons with the Giants, Flowers has missed just two games. He's also been incredibly inconsistent in most his 46 starts. Some of the unhidden attributes via Eli Manning has covered up a lot of the Giants deficiencies along the O-line, lessening the blow in terms of sack numbers as the two-time Super Bowl champ releases so quickly he'd rather destroy his completion percentage than risk a loss of yards via sack.

Ereck Flowers has a tremendous shot of holding down the starting right tackle spot come July.
