The New York Giants chose to go with a risky move with the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by not taking a quarterback despite all the talent at the position. New York went with running back Saquon Barkley instead, and the risk is paying off even if it isn't in the win column just yet.

Along with being named a Pro Bowler in his first season with the Giants, Barkley is earning high praise from his peers and great running backs of the past like Hall of Famer, Eric Dickerson. Although Dickerson hopes Barkley won't break any of his records moving forward, the Los Angeles Rams legend knows the rookie in New York is a special player as he told ESPN.

“He’s a different breed,” Dickerson told ESPN earlier this week. “The one thing I saw, and I didn’t see him play in college … he made a cut and was able to run sideways pretty much — some stuff I saw myself do when I was young — full speed. And he turned upfield.

“I was like, ‘This guy is special.’ I just think he’s going to be that guy.”

The Giants are having a forgettable season with Pat Shurmur's squad only having five wins heading into Week 16. However, Barkley has emerged as a potential superstar, and the future could be bright for the storied franchise with him and Odell Beckham Jr. leading the way.

In 14 games thus far, the 21-year-old has rushed for 1,155 yards and nine touchdowns on 223 rush attempts. The rookie has also made an impact as a receiver with 82 receptions for 654 yards and four touchdowns.
