The New York Giants are stumbling toward the finish line of the 2019 NFL season. It seems they have made a decision on a plan for tight end Evan Engram this offseason.

Engram was placed on injured reserve with a sprained foot. According to Dan Duggan of The Athletic, he says he will have surgery to help with his recovery:

Engram's comments appear to indicate that the injury is not deemed to be too severe and the surgery is more of a precaution than a necessity. Although the prospect of a quicker recovery is certainly an encouraging sign, it is just further proof of his ongoing durability issues.

There is no question that Engram has established himself as one of the most talented, young tight ends in the NFL. His prowess as a pass-catcher has made him a fixture in the Giants' passing game every time he was on the field. Unfortunately, keeping him healthy has become their biggest challenge over the last couple of years.

Engram missed five games in the 2018 campaign due to a lingering knee and hamstring issues. He will finish this season with 44 receptions for 467 yards and three touchdowns in just eight games. He is now set to enter the final year of his rookie deal in the 2020 NFL season and he will need to prove he is capable of staying healthy if he hopes to get a lucrative extension.
