The age-old debate: is Eli Manning a Hall of Famer? Following his retirement from the NFL and subsequently the New York Giants, the debate of whether or not Manning is bound for the Hall of Fame has dominated football talk.

A former New York quarterback turned Hall of Famer Joe Namath has put his word in. The former Jet says that Manning should go to the Hall of Fame and that he was better than Broadway Joe.

“I was pretty good and did some things. Eli, I marveled at. He was remarkable,” Namath told the New York Post. “I wouldn’t compare myself to Eli. He’s done far more than I ever did on the field… If, if, if. It’s [expletive]. The games played. The durability. The playoffs. I remember early on he was getting some heat, he didn’t always smile much, but every player that’s ever played with Eli swears by his work ethic and his character.”

Manning won two Super Bowls as the starting quarterback of the Giants. He retired in the top-10 of most of the NFL's career passing statistics.

Namath concludes that Manning not only is bound for the Hall of Fame, but he would be a much easier choice if he had better squads around him during his time with the Giants.

“[If he] ever had a team, he would have been the first Manning in the Hall of Fame. He never had a team,” Namath said.

Joe Namath brought a Super Bowl to New York. Eli Manning brought two. Namath is in the Hall of Fame, if he had a word, Manning would join him.
