New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley had quite the rookie season in 2018-19. As a result, many have already anointed the former Penn State Nittany Lions standout as one of the best running backs in the entire NFL.

Taking it one step further, former Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart, who was a teammate of Barkley's with the Giants last season, believes that the soon-to-be second year rusher could become the best running back ever.

“I'm gonna go say this on the record: He's gonna be the best running back to ever play this game,” said Stewart. “As long as he can stay healthy. He's more than just his talent … He's not just trying to be the best running back. He's trying to figure out ways that he can get the ball in space, whether he can line up in the slot. He believes he can do any and everything on the field, and he really can.”

“He's a spectacular football player. Great, level-headed kid, got a good support system behind him. It was great working with him.”

However, Stewart wasn't done dished out praise just yet as the longtime NFL running back also made a point to give some love to a current Panthers rusher as well.

“The best running back in football right now is Saquon Barkley, I think,” Stewart recently said on the Wilson and Parcell Show. “And I'd say a 1B to that is Christian McCaffrey.”

Although Barkley and McCaffrey have a lot of football left to play, there is no question that both remain right on track to become all-time greats.
