It will take a while before New York Giants running back Jonathan Stewart will be able to take the field again. According to Michael Eisen of the Giants’ official website, the team has designated Stewart to the injured reserve list because of a foot injury, meaning he won’t be seeing any action for at least eight weeks.

While this is not good news for the Giants, Stewart had not mattered much for the Giants’ offense over the last three weeks, so he’s someone New York can easily replace. Stewart, who was already ruled out of Week 4’s game against the New Orleans Saints at home prior to the announcement of his landing on the IR, produced just 17 rushing yards on six carries this season for the Giants.

To cover the void on the 53-man roster that’s been left by Jonathan Stewart, the Giants have promoted Jawill Davis from their practice squad.

Snaps, however, will be hard to come by for the undrafted rookie, as Davis will be behind the team’s backfield pecking order that has rookie sensation Saquon Barkley at the top and Wayne Gallman at the No.2 spot on the depth chart.

Stewart, who spent the first 10 years of his NFL career donning Carolina Panthers colors, signed a two-year deal worth $6.8 million with the Giants back in March.

Drafted in the first round by the Panthers in 2008, Stewart has a career stat line of 7,335 rushing yards and 51 rushing touchdowns on 1,705 carries.
