Nate Solder knows the New York Giants have the No. 4 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and they very well could be in the market for a top offensive lineman.

Pro Football Focus ranked the Giants' line as the 17th-best unit in football last year, specifically citing underwhelming performances from Nate Solder and Mike Remmers at the offensive tackle spots.

However, some of Solder's old teammates are coming to his defense as the Giants contemplate taking a tackle with their top selection.

Former Giants offensive linemen Shaun O'Hara and David Diehl both feel the best is yet to come for Solder (via Dan Benton of USA TODAY):

“I still think Nate Solder has some good football left, and I am not just talking about one year,” O’Hara said, via Giants.com. “He could play another two or three years and you could keep a guy at right tackle. . . I think some of his best football is still in him.”

O’Hara isn’t the only one who believes this, either. Retired Giants offensive lineman David Diehl concurred with his former teammate.

“I agree,” Diehl said.

GM David Gettleman said the team would not be moving Solder off his spot at left tackle, adding he hoped to inspire competition in the event the Giants draft more talent at positions of depth.

Solder is in the third year of a four-year, $62 million deal he signed with the Giants in 2018. He was a staple of the New England Patriots' offensive line prior to coming to New York, and he only just turned 32 last week.

Other left tackles–like Andrew Whitworth of the Los Angeles Rams–have shown they can have longevity. Solder's former teammates see the same for him as he enters the 2020 season with the Giants.

People in the NFL community are wondering if New York will take Tristan Wirfs with its top pick. Solder will certainly be interested in what Big Blue does.
