Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back William Gay was on the verge of a deal to sign with the New York Giants on Wednesday and was on his way to New York to get a physical.

Apparently, Gay passed that physical because he has officially signed his deal, his agent Jerrold Colton announced via Twitter.

Gay, 33, was released by the Steelers earlier this offseason along with fellow veteran defensive back Mike Mitchell. He played 10 of his 11 years in the NFL in Pittsburgh, who drafted him in the fifth round in 2007. He spent one season with the Arizona Cardinals back in 2012.

Gay saw his days as a starter with the Steelers come to an end last season as he finished with a mere 19 tackles, one interception, three passes defended, and two fumbles forced.

However, he did still play all 16 games to keep up his amazing streak of playing every single game in his career. He’s now played in 176 consecutive games, which is currently the longest active streak for any defensive player in the league.

Gay will now join a new-look Giants secondary which has also added the likes of Curtis Riley, B.W. Webb, and Teddy Williams to join Janoris Jenkins and Eli Apple as part of the cornerback corps this offseason. Gay will help make up for the loss of veteran cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, whom the Giants released in March.

Gay has had extensive experience playing the slot over the course of his career, and that could be what his role will be in New York.
