After a sluggish 2021 regular season, running back Saquon Barkley sees that the New York Giants offense has quite a notable chip on its shoulder.

Not much went the Giants’ way on the offensive side of the ball last year. From injuries to ranking near the bottom in a multitude of team stats, the Giants saw a drastic downturn in production on offense over the season.

Overall, Barkley, as he opened up about during a press conference at the Giants’ voluntary workouts, believes that he and multiple players have much to prove heading into the 2022 campaign.

“I feel like I’ve got a lot to prove,” Barkley said. “I feel like there's a lot of guys in the running back room, the wide receiver room, the quarterback room, who’ve got a lot to prove. We're very talented. We believe in each other, and we believe in the system that’s in place. Right now, it's about getting 1 percent better every day.

“Obviously, you start smiling when you see plays work out there and you see how they work in the film room or when you’re going over the playbook. … When those opportunities come, make sure we stay healthy enough and we capitalize on the plays that we can make.”

Barkley dealt with injuries for the third straight season last year. For one, he missed time due to a notable low-ankle injury suffered during the Week 5 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. He did go on to make his return to action in the second half of the season and did not sustain an injury over the remainder of the campaign.

From Barkley’s perspective, he sure is much relieved that this is his first offseason in quite a while that he is not undergoing any injury rehab.

“I definitely feel a lot different, a lot better,” Barkley said. “I feel like myself again. Obviously, I don't want to jump the gun, I just want to keep focusing on the little things and get better every day. … I can't control me stepping on someone’s foot and hurting my ankle. I’ve got to put that in the past.”

A crucial 2022 season sure awaits Barkley and the rest of the offensive unit.
