Jack Eichel's tenure with the Buffalo Sabres is a bit complicated to discuss. Prior to being traded to the Vegas Golden Knights, Eichel was Buffalo's foundation. Drafted in 2015 with the second overall pick, the center instantly became the franchise player. However, multiple losing seasons and an injury debacle have soured fans' image of him.

Because of that, it wasn't exactly a surprise when Eichel was met by boos in Buffalo when the Sabres hosted the Golden Knights. Those boos were channeled by the home team to propel them over the visiting team 3-1. After the game, Eichel commented on the home team booing him, saying that: (via The Athletic)

“That's the loudest I've heard this place, ever. It only took 7 years and me leaving for them to get into it.”

Ouch. To be fair to Sabres fans, there wasn't much for them to cheer for during Eichel's tenure there. The Golden Knights center failed to get Buffalo to the playoffs in his six-year tenure there, despite the hype surrounding him. The blame doesn't fall solely on Eichel's shoulders, but he's part of the reason why the Sabres fans were quiet while he was there.

Eichel was traded to the Golden Knights after a long medical dispute with the Sabres. Thus far, he has helped the Vegas squad to a pretty decent showing in the season thus far. A loss to the lowly Sabres shouldn't completely derail their pretty good campaign thus far. As for the Sabres, they're hoping that beating their former captain will be the start of their franchise's turnaround.
