The Memphis Grizzlies will have their title credentials put to the test on Wednesday night when they host Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets. Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, they will be without superstar point guard Ja Morant, who has apparently failed to recover in time for the marquee matchup.

Memphis announced on Tuesday that Morant is still dealing with a sore right knee and that he will be sitting out Wednesday's clash (h/t Grizzlies PR on Twitter):

This is a tough blow for the Grizzlies, who are currently in the midst of a positioning battle in the West. A matchup against the mighty Nets is also one that has been long-anticipated by NBA fans everywhere, with two of the top teams in the league today facing off in what should be a spectacle. Kyrie Irving is expected to suit up in that one and we all know how hot he's been these past few weeks.

It is worth noting that this announcement comes well over 24 hours before Wednesday's tipoff. It seems like Morant is dealing with a concerning knee injury that will now keep him sidelined for a second consecutive game. His next chance to come back will be on Thursday when the Grizzlies take on the Indiana Pacers in the second night of a back-to-back set.

Memphis gets the night off on Friday but they return to action on Saturday to battle the defending champs Milwaukee Bucks. After that, they face off against the Golden State Warriors, who are just one game behind them in the loss column out West, on Monday night. Needless to say, the Grizzlies have a tough stretch ahead of them and they will need their superstar back as soon as possible.

Then again, it's also a possibility that Memphis is being overly cautious with Morant here. After all, they've already secured their place in the playoffs and it wouldn't be a bad idea to rest their All-Star point guard ahead of what is expected to be a grueling playoff run. He's only 22, though, so it's not as if Ja Morant is in desperate need of a handful of nights off ahead of the postseason.
