The Memphis Grizzlies will exercise their fourth-year option on third-year forward Jarell Martin which will keep him under contract until next season, Basketball Insiders' Michael Scotto reports.

Martin was drafted No. 25 overall by Memphis in the 2015 draft. However, he failed to establish himself as a regular rotation player for the Grizzlies during his first two years with the team. He appeared in just 69 games through his first two seasons in the league, averaging 4.6 points and 3.6 rebounds in 13.6 minutes.

Martin had actually been informed by the team earlier this summer that he would get waived before the start of the season. However, Martin had a surprisingly strong showing during preseason which made the Grizzlies front office change its mind and keep him on the roster over Wade Baldwin and Rade Zagorac.

The Grizzlies have since needed Martin to fill in as a starter early this season after their starting power forward JaMychal Green went down with a sprained ankle in the season opener. Martin is averaging 7.1 points and 4.6 rebounds in 23.9 minutes per game through seven games this year.

Once Green returns, though, Martin will likely have to compete with Chandler Parsons for playing time at the backup power forward spot.
