The tumultuous 2017-18 NBA season continues for the Memphis Grizzlies. As a result, it seems the Grizzlies could potentially be shifting gears toward a full-fledged rebuild.

The rumors regarding star center Marc Gasol's future in Memphis had been circulating since the controversial firing of former head coach David Fizdale early in the year. However, the only way the Grizzlies are reportedly willing to deal Gasol is if he asks to be traded, according to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders:

There was considerable talk that the Grizzlies might be open to trading All-Star center Marc Gasol. While that’s always a possibility when a team underachieves as the Grizzlies have, sources close to the situation say that unless Gasol asks to be traded, it’s not a real consideration for Memphis.

Although the report may seem like shark-bait for teams looking to acquire the three-time All-Star center, it does provide some reassurance for Grizzlies fans that the organization is all in on their franchise player. Should the rumors begin to swirl once again, it will likely be because Gasol wants out of Memphis.

The 32-year-old Gasol recently admitted to being at the age where he can no longer ‘afford' to play for next year. That said, there are little signs the Grizzlies will be able to return to the formidable playoff team they had been for all these years.
